We use our phone to surf sport when Saturday comes, we get our news fix at six, and our naughty bits after the pub shuts on a Friday night.

These are just some of the headlines from the latest Leadership in Mobile initiative, championed by independent market research company, Mediacells, on behalf of 50 million mobile web pages from some of the world's biggest media owners.

Mediacells analysed over three million entertainment-themed page impressions from the UK's top mobile entertainment  sites and found that the audience was made up of a predominantly male demographic, surfing content aimed at an adult audience at the end of a Friday night, possibly in the pub.

And finally, the sport. Out of 20 million football-themed page impressions from the UK's top mobile sports sites including Sky Sports and 24-7 Football there is a surge in usage when the home giants Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal play.

The top media owners in the UK are joining forces to level the playing field in mobile media.

The Leadership in Mobile initiative is being championed by independent market research company, Mediacells, on behalf of Turner Broadcasting, News International, BSKYB, the FT as well as well-known brands like 118118.

The aim is to provide a transparent set of quantifiable mobile website usage trends from the major media owners and make available the results to the UK press. Website analysis of over 50,000,000 page views across news, sport, entertainment and business categories is logged per month

The initiative comes at a time when advertising-supported content is becoming the dominant model in mobile while ringtone and wallpaper download revenues are decreasing. Mediacells provides the media industry with an award-winning methodology which aims to innovate in the way mobile website activity is measured.

The project starts with trends usage and will develop over subsequent months to include unique users by mapping mobile devices against consumer segments.
