The Android Cometh: Google’s Android operating system looks set to eclipse Apple mobile OS in 2010 |
In our first Quarterly Insights report of the year, we predicted that 32% of all phones would be smart by the end of 2010.
At Mobile World Congress 2010, Vodafone Global CEO, Vittorio Colao, announced that 1 in 4 devices on the Vodafone network, were now smart. This indicates Mediacells is safely on track with its market share predictions.
Mediacells also predicted that Google would continue to increase market share. Here is an extract from the original report we published back in January:
"2010 is likely to see greater Android presence in Mobile, bolstered by the launch of Google iClones like the Nexus One."
To substantiate our vision, respected commentator and Guardian Newspaper communications editor, Richard Wray, reported from Mobile World Congress on the unveling of the new HTC Google device: "Then there is Google, which has not only provided the industry with a serious, and more importantly open, competitor to the iPhone, but looks increasingly likely to usher in a new era of mobile advertising."
We said: 'Nokia will continue to recede more in Europe - As Nokia focuses more on developing territories its EFIGS foothold will diminish'
Gartner says that Nokia's share slid from 50.9% to 40.8% on 15.6 million units.
