Mediacells short range forecasts prove spot on, again

In the Mediacells Q2 Quarterly Insights report we forecast that "Sony Ericsson set to make more money out of fewer device shipments in Q2", and Sony Ericsson today announced that the Japanese-Swedish company has managed to ship 11 million handsets over the past quarter, generating gross income of 1.757 billion euro, representing a 25 percent increase compared to the first quarter of this year. This is despite quarter-on-quarter shipments being down 2.8 million, from 13.8 million units in Q2 2009 to 11 million in Q2 2010.

The Mediacells explanation behind the forecast cited "Sony Ericsson’s promotion of the Xperia 10 Android device pays off in value per unit sale but not in sales volume." In the Ericsson News Center (sic) today the company, under the presidency of Bert Nordberg highlighted the "average selling price (ASP) increased 19% sequentially and 31% year-on-year to Euro 160 during the quarter due to improved product and geographical mix, as well as positive currency effects."
